What Can I Sell at a Car Boot Sale?

Look around you.

What do you see that you no longer use, that is in your way, that takes up space, or that you simply don't like?

Besides your spouse and the kitchen sink, of course, although we have had that once! You can sell anything that is in your house that we call 'pre-loved.' Although post-loved would be more accurate!

Those unwanted gifts, the third dining set you have never used, the shoes you bought but were the wrong size. Games your kids have long outgrown, books you won't read again—the list is endless.

In fact, we have had oodles of interesting items being sold at a car boot sale. A wedding dress, a kitchen sink, stamps, Harry Potter collectibles, even tables and chairs!

Ideally the items you want to sell should at least fit in your car, but we have had very successful vendors who sold antique furniture and large decorative items.

What about crafts?

As for arts and crafts, we warmly welcome artisans, especially those who craft items from recycled materials.

But if you are very creative and make bags, jewelry, accessories, and more, a car boot sale is an easy (and affordable) way to introduce your creations to the market. See what people like, get your name out there, and see how your business grows!

Can I sell food at a car boot sale?

One of our favourite vendors who sell items at a car boot sale is the food vendor!

From wantons, pancakes, boerewors (BBQ'd sausage rolls), rotti, popcorn, muffins, rusks, dried fruit, honey and honeycomb, freshly squeezed sugarcane, chocolate truffles, pizza, and the ever-popular gluten-free cookies and waffles.

Food vendors are most welcome, as long as you submit your food handler's certificate before participating.

What should I not sell at a car boot sale?

The Mahogany Car Boot Sale has a strict 'no retailers' policy. If you own a shop or an online store or sell new items from a catalogue, this is not the place for you. We focus on upcycling and recycling.

That said, some venues are more lenient, as the Phoenix Car Boot Sale does not have these restrictions. Some vendors who sell manga and other new collectibles, such as diecast cars, have been very successful participating at some of the venues.

What is not allowed to be sold at a car boot sale?

There are some obvious items that will not be allowed at a car boot sale, such as illegal substances, vapes, cigarettes, and alcohol. No animals. Your spouse...

Bottom line - open those cupboards, see what you have stuffed in there that you no longer use. Check your garage, the attic, the basement, the spare room.
